I’ve seen many videos and articles on the terrible 1955 tragedy. Some quite good and a few with too much bias. But so far this video here is the best one I’ve seen to date, with a very good description of what actually happened.

Remember the Amalgam models? Pfft, forget them. A child’s toy, nothing more. THIS is a serious model. This is totally out of this world! I was surfing around and found this video. Jonny Smith (from Fifth Gear) posted this on his channel this Monday. I already knew about Russell Lord’s Escort model, but this is the first time I see a very nice interview with him.

Amalgam models. A little big for my tastes (or better, for my house), but oh well, go big or go home, right? These are 1:12, but they offer models in smaller scales, even in 1:43 (but with less opening features, obviously). Still, the big ones are absolutely out of this world, with working features that are borderline unbelievable. But since the price tag on these gems is also in the big leagues (making the price of an 1:18 CMC sound as peanuts), the models are as rare as the 1:1.
All motorsports enthusiasts (like yours truly) moan that regulatory bodies are always castrating the sport. And if it wasn’t for racing bodies, motorsports would be more fun 🙄. Well, once (just once) FIA said what the hey and essentially pulled all the stops. That’s basically how Group B came to be, and tragically, it was too much.

An interesting look on how the Daytona Coupe, in the hands of Bob Bondurant, won the World Manufacturers’ GT Championship in 1965. Until seeing this I wasn’t aware of the all the team drama that happened that year.

Honestly, I’m amazed it still hasn’t been banned yet. No guardrails, no braking markers, not many turn indicators, nothing. And of course, to the side of the road there’s a precipice. If that isn’t enough, take into consideration that cars manage all that at around 220 km/h. Oh, and close to the top, the air becomes a LOT thinner, so in theory you should take an oxygen bottle.

Produced by Ferodo (yes, the brake pad brand), this is a 30 minutes glimpse into the 1968 race. With footage both from the race per se and the paddocks, it gives a good idea of what was Le Mans 52 years ago. Things were a LOT different back then compared to nowadays. Almost to a point, that if I didn’t know better, I would say it didn’t look “professional”.
So if you have 30 minutes to spare, it’s a nice film. Just for fun, I tried to spot the cars that I have in the film. However I wasn’t very successful, since I only have four cars of that race. And even worse, two are stinkers 😖.
Yes, I am a Porsche fan boy, I admit 😎.
