First shown at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in June, 2017, the new GT2 RS was the successor to Stuttgart’s 2011 limited edition (only 500 made) model of the same moniker. The original car was considered a race car for the streets, but the 2018 model is, being blunt, a total beast.

The engine of the new GT2 RS is based on the current 991 Turbo’s 3.8 l flat six, but with bigger turbos, a water injection system for additional charge-cooling and a titanium exhaust. That translates to an absurd 700 horsepower and 553 lb-ft of torque, poured onto the tarmac through a seven-speed, PDK dual-clutch automatic transmission. Besides the unholy amount of power, the car is also light – only 1470 kg. And that’s with all fluids and a full gas tank. All that translates to a 0-100 km/h (0-60 mph) in just 2.7 seconds and a top speed of 340 km/h (211 mph). Consequently, you may need spare underwear.

Absolutely delightful color, and you can see the carbon fiber pattern on the roof.

The GT2 RS is the fastest street-bound 911 in history, and also the most expensive, costing $294,250.00 (yeah, that’s US). For just an additional $26,600.00 (yep, American again) you can get the optional Weissach Package, that gives you a carbon fiber roof, anti-roll bars, coupling rods and magnesium wheels, trimming off 30 kg of curb weight.

Intimidating.

However, all those specs are maybe only interesting to Porsche nerds. What really makes this car stand out happened on September 27, 2017. A yellow GT2 RS (with optional Weissach Package) became the King of Nürburgring. The GT2 RS lapped the Green Hell in just 6’47.3”, the fastest time for a production car ever. That was 10 seconds faster than the 918 Spyder hypercar. And five seconds faster than the former record holder, Lamborghini’s Huracan Performante. BUT, Lamborghini’s feat was controversial. The video of the lap was edited and the car was NOT stock and even maybe had race tires.

“LE model”- being honest, that detail doesn’t do much for me.

Being a Stuttgart fan boy, of course I had to have it. But I only have it because of the more than gracious help of that Porsche-fanatic extraordinaire and my big and ugly buddy, Gary. The Weissach Package GT2 RS is a limited edition and dealer exclusive model. Mine is #1452 of 1911 made, and right now it’s going for impossible prices on eBay. Specially the yellow Ring King. But being such a nice guy, Gary bought one for me at a Porsche dealer and sent it over. A gem of a car, and coming from Spark you know what to expect. Consequently, it has it all: crisp lines, smooth and thick paint and a plethora of minute details. The model will truly stand out in any collection. A great addition to my garage and a friggintastic model!

Thanks Gary!
