{"id":3819,"date":"2018-11-06T14:25:56","date_gmt":"2018-11-06T16:25:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.w-143.com\/?p=3819"},"modified":"2019-03-14T00:10:30","modified_gmt":"2019-03-14T02:10:30","slug":"porsche-takes-back-the-nurburgring-crown","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.w-143.com\/index.php\/2018\/11\/06\/porsche-takes-back-the-nurburgring-crown\/","title":{"rendered":"Porsche takes back the N\u00fcrburgring crown"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/images.carscoops.com\/2018\/11\/866169e0-porsche-911-gt2-rs-mr-nurburgring-lap-record-4.jpg\" width=\"1916\" height=\"1080\"><\/p>\n<p>In September last year, a <em>factory stock<\/em> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.w-143.com\/index.php\/porsche-911-991-gt2-rs-weissach-package-spark\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Porsche GT2 RS<\/a> established a new lap record at the Ring, doing the Nordschleif in 6:47,25.&nbsp; But in July this year, a Lamborghini Aventador SVJ did the lap in 6:44,97. So Porsche lost the crown&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>However, the Aventador SVJ that did the lap had a full roll cage. The car does NOT have a full cage when it comes out of the factory and it&#8217;s NOT an optional <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3186\" src=\"http:\/\/www.w-143.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/hmm.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"15\" height=\"15\">.&nbsp; So maybe (once again!), Lamborghini didn&#8217;t use a stock car.<\/p>\n<p>Instead of criticizing Lamborghini for their <em>faux pas<\/em>, this week Porsche went back to N\u00fcrburgring. This time however with a special GT2. They used the <strong>GT2 RS MR<\/strong>, that was prepared by <em>Manthey Racing<\/em>, a racing team\/company owned (51%) by Porsche. Manthey didn&#8217;t change much in the stock car, basically added a water tank to better cool down the fuel injection system, upgraded the breaks and added a few aerodynamic aids. The engine and suspension weren&#8217;t touched.<\/p>\n<p>The result was a lap done in <strong>6:40,33<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"840\" height=\"473\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/2ror87RYTqE?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m not 100% sure if the GT2 RS MR can be considered a &#8220;stock&#8221; car, though I bet the Sant&#8217;Agata crowd would swear by it, if it was a Lambo <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3825\" src=\"http:\/\/www.w-143.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/laugh2.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"15\" height=\"15\">.
