Pumpelly <br>Team: <em>Flying Lizard Motorsports<\/em> <br>Race: DNF (GTE-Am class) at Le Mans in 2011 <br>Spark - S3423 (resin) <\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color has-text-align-right has-small-font-size has-medium-gray-color\">Published 08\/25\/17<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-drop-cap\">The 997 generation of <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/s1.cdn.autoevolution.com\/images\/gallery\/PORSCHE-911-GT3-RS--997-2--4325_3.jpg\" target=\"_blank\">911 GT3 RS<\/a> (Rennsport) was first released in 2006, as an homologation model to be used in a few racing series &#8211; it was basically a street legal racing car. But the RSR was the full-blown race version, specifically developed for GT2 class racing. The car received a beefed-up supension and a gearbox similar to the one used in the RS Spyder. The engine was the reliable&nbsp; (<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/www.total911.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/RS-4.0-Mezger.jpg\" target=\"_blank\">M97.74<\/a>) 3996 cm\u00b3 flat-6 with 24 valves and DOHC, that in stock form produced 465 ponies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.w-143.com\/+upload\/porsche\/race911\/porsche_911-997_81_03.jpg\" alt=\"GT3 RSR #81\"\/><figcaption>Troy Lee did a wonderful job. I have the impression I&#8217;m looking at one of his helmets.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Flying Lizard Motorsports had a very straight relation with Porsche  Motorsport North America, and participated in the development of the 997  GT3 RSR. For 2011 the race team had two RSRs (in the GTE-Pro and AM  classes) lined up at La Sarthe. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.w-143.com\/index.php\/porsche-911-997-gt3-rsr-80-spark\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Car #80 (opens in a new tab)\">Car #80<\/a> (chassis #WP0ZZZ99Z8S799913) was  able to finish in 18th place overall (6th in GTE-Pro class). Car #81  (chassis #WP0ZZZ99Z8S799912-09b) however, had to abandon on the 211th  lap. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.w-143.com\/+upload\/porsche\/race911\/porsche_911-997_81_02.jpg\" alt=\"GT3 RSR #81\"\/><figcaption>Is the GT3 RSR #81 cool or what? No, it&#8217;s ice\u00b3 cool!<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>So, this <strong>GT3 RSR #81<\/strong> is not my first and probably not my last 997 and it\u2019s a DNFer. Why get it then? Easy: it\u2019s a looker. An art car for sure, and to me not only an art car but a BEAUTIFUL one at that. Without a doubt it was a fantastic acquisition for the burgeoning Art Car Wing of my collection. I admit that two cars (three now!) constituting a \u201cwing\u201d is stretching it, but hey, I\u2019m working on it.
