He debuted the cars at the Six Hours of Daytona, in February, but one DNF and the other was disqualified. The following month they were at the Sebring 12 Hours, and one car managed a 24th place. With the (small) result improvement, he was more confident to tackle the 24 Heures du Mans. So for the 1972 race, he had two cars in the fray, cars #72 and #28. However, neither finished. Unfortunately on lap 53 piston failure took out car #28, and on lap 82 a cylinder head joint failed and Corvette #72 was out too.

Americans do like their flag.

This is my third C3 Vette, and each one is from a different brand. The Altaya #76 is obviously the worse, though it’s not a terrible model. But has the coolest livery. The Vitesse #1 is quite better, but still has some shortcomings. So with no surprises here, this Spark is the best of the trio. A very well detailed model, with a great livery – nothing less than a true gem of a model. Honestly, this Corvette #72 is one of those models good for every vintage race car collector.

The Spark is the winner, hands down.

1972 Chevrolet Corvette (C3) Pilots: A.
