However, the performance gap was just too big for a GT2 to be competitive. So Zuffenhausen started the development of a proper GT1 car. Unlike the competition, they started first with the racing car and then adapted it for road use to meet the homologation requirements. So despite the 911 name, the 911 GT1 had very little in common with the 911 (993) of the era. The engine, a 3164 cm³ water-cooled flat-6, counted on two turbos, 12 valves and DOHC. That guaranteed an output of 600 hp.

I had this model in 1:18, from Maisto. I remember it well, since it was my first Le Mans model!

And the car was FAST: at the practice sessions for the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2006, the 911 GT1 was clocked at 330 km/h (205 mph) on the Mulsanne Straight! For the race Porsche fielded two cars, #25 (chassis #002) and #26 (chassis #003). This is car #25 that came in first place in the GT1 class, following the overall winning TWR WSC95 #7. A VERY decent model made terrific because it was a gift from that Back Street Boys fanboy from the North.

One of the models that defines a true “good & honest Minichamps”.

Even though he said had he was singing a Back Street Boys music while packing it 🤐. Yes, BSB is his favorite band. If you ask him, he will name all band members from memory.
