In 1989 the third generation of the Skyline was launched, called BNR32 – or better known simply as R32. The big deal about the R32 was it’s all-new twin-turbocharged engine and an all wheel drive concept, designed by Nissan’s racing department, Nismo. The R32 was also used as the base to build a competitive Group A race car.

Kyosho is one of the rare 1:43 brands that make models with opening panels.

The engine (called RB26DETT) was a 2568 cm³ twin-turbocharged inline-6 cylinders with DOHC and 24 valves. In stock form it delivered about 320 hp stock (but more than 600 hp in race trim!). To cope with all that, Nissan engineers fit the R32 with an all-wheel-drive system. This system called ATTESA E-TS, apparently was similar to what the Porsche 959 used. The car was quite impressive and produced an outstanding track record. The R32 won five (!) consecutive JTCC and over 200 race wins, plus the unofficial lap record for a production car at Nürburgring!

A simple but AWESOME model.

I’m a HUGE fan of the Skyline GT-R, and was very pleased when I got this R32 Kyosho. Detail level on the model is really good. And this time with a bonnet that actually opens enough for you to actually see the engine. Since it’s actually functional, I can almost say that opening panels here are not just a gimmick. So stay tuned that a few more Skylines will show up here at W-143…

PS: This is also a special homage to the Earl of Northumberland. He’s a HUGE fan of the mighty Godzilla, and loves the Skyline only less then the 996 Porsche.

1989 Nissan Skyline GT-R (BNR32) Kyosho – 03221G (diecast) Published 06/17/17 The first Skyline GT-R (“PGC10”) was introduced in 1969, and was produced until 1973 when production was cancelled.
