The model\u2019s story begins in 2000. For 2001, BMW wanted a car to compete in the GT class of the ALMS. At the time, a V8 engine was the way to go, so they started to develop one from scratch. This new engine, called <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flatout.com.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/bmw_m3_27_1-620x414.jpeg\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>P60B40<\/strong><\/a>, was a 90\u00ba 3997 cm\u00b3 V8 with dry sump. It had DOHC, 32 valves and was capable of 444 hp and 48,9 mkgf at 5500 rpm. However, for race homologation, BMW should offer road versions. According to the rules, the car had to be on sale in two continents for at least 12 months. And that was all. So BMW offered 10 units to the public, as a special order. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.w-143.com\/+upload\/street\/bmw_m3gtr_2001_02.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">That&#8217;s what I call &#8220;sporty sober&#8221;.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>\nThe BMW M3 GTR <em>Strassenversion<\/em> (in Germany) or <em>Road Version<\/em> (in the US) was quite civilized. It had many <a href=\"https:\/\/cdn.bmwblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/BMW-M3-GTR-Road-version-1900x1200-images-13-750x500.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">creature comforts<\/a>, but there was no rear seat. Most of the aerodynamic features of the race version were also present, but the engine was detuned to 385 hp. Even with the sedated engine but weighing 1349 kg, it could go from 0 to 100 km\/h in just 4.7 seconds. So it was a rocket. The race car was a total success, and dominated the 2001 season. To the point that Porsche filed a complaint, and for 2002 ALMS changed the rules. From then on, for homologation, BMW would need to produce at least 100 cars and 1000 engines. BMW said <em>\u201cNo way!\u201d<\/em> &nbsp;and that was the end of the E46 Strassenversion\n\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.w-143.com\/+upload\/street\/bmw_m3gtr_2001_03.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Engine detail is just okay, but nothing to wrte home about.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>When new, the sticker price was \u20ac 250.000, but it\u2019s not clear how many actually came out of the factory. Some say six, but with no official confirmation from BMW, that is speculation. Nowadays only three exist, all <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/cdn.bmwblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/BMW-M3-GTR-Road-version-1900x1200-images-05.jpg\" target=\"_blank\">silver<\/a>, and they were all bought back by BMW. Without a doubt this is my favorite bimmer of modern times, and I needed (a silver) one for the Garage. A great model from Kyosho, just as good as my <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/www.w-143.com\/index.php\/porsche-911-930-turbo-1975-kyosho\/\" target=\"_blank\">Turbo<\/a> and <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/www.w-143.com\/index.php\/porsche-911-930-carrera-3-2-coupe-1984-kyosho\/\" target=\"_blank\">Carrera<\/a>. Minichamps also offers the car in 1:43, but I couldn\u2019t find one in silver. And since the real cars came out of the factory only in silver, it had to be silver. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center has-medium-gray-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-aee904dbcc976bf81ee469644733db11\">UPDATE!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-right has-medium-gray-color has-text-color has-link-color has-small-font-size wp-elements-833ab41413ca287c7f82f9285a67c9d2\">09\/14\/2024<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.w-143.com\/+upload\/street\/bmw_m3gtr_2001_05.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Will it stop there or will my model crumble to dust?<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>I took the model out of the cabinet to use it in a shoot of another BMW. And to my sadness, as you can see in the insert of the pic above, it has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.w-143.com\/index.php\/zamac-rot\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">zamac rot<\/a>. Only on the hood, the rest of the model is fine, yet the situation is bad. Things can stop right there or the reaction may progress. And if so, the model could actually crumble to pieces \ud83d\ude33. There&#8217;s absolutely nothing that I can do except for getting a replacement. However, these cars are <strong>VERY<\/strong> rare now.
