Baldi <br>Team: <i>Martini Lancia<\/i> <br>Race: 7th overall (C1 class) at Le Mans in 1985 <br>Ixo - LMC 128 (diecast)<\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-right has-small-font-size\"><span style=\"color: #919191;\">Published 08\/14\/18<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-drop-cap\">In the late 70\u2019s Lancia\u2019s car for the World Sportscar Championship was the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.w-143.com\/index.php\/lancia-beta-montecarlo-turbo-66-spark\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Montecarlo<\/a> (Type 137). But in 1982, when Group C replaced Group 5, the automaker needed a new car. For the new rules Lancia hastily used the <a href=\"https:\/\/i.kinja-img.com\/gawker-media\/image\/upload\/n9fs7qjyt96vx2nbknvz.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">LC1<\/a>. However, the LC1 had a flaw: designed to Group 6 regulations, FIA would not allow it to score points. And that meant Lancia couldn&#8217;t win the champio0nship. So they needed something totally new to be competitive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.w-143.com\/+upload\/i-o\/lancia_lc2_5_04.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Great looks, good specs, however not good enough for La Sarthe.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The problem was that Lancia didn\u2019t have an engine suitable for a Group C car. But since Fiat owned Lancia and also owned <i>Ferrari<\/i>, Lancia sourced the V8 from the 1982 Ferrari <a href=\"https:\/\/i.pinimg.com\/originals\/fc\/0c\/92\/fc0c927a6fced94e8fd08f4c018864cf.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">308 GTBi QV<\/a>. The manufacturer reduced the V8&#8217;s displacement from 3000 to 2599 cm\u00b3 and then added two KKK turbos. The chassis, designed conjunctly by Dallara and Abarth, was an aluminum monocoque. With the chassis done Dallara then covered it in a Kevlar and carbon fiber bodywork.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.w-143.com\/+upload\/i-o\/lancia_lc2_5_02.jpg\" alt=\"LC2 \"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Beautiful livery and a quite nice level of detailing.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>For 1983, Martini Lancia had two LC2 models lined up for the <i>24 Heures du Mans<\/i>, but none finished. The next year, with just two cars the result was a little better: one DNF and one 8th place. In 1985 the LC2, after some improvements, was back at La Sarthe. With two cars in the race, 1985 was the best year for the LC2: a sixth (car #4) and seventh (<a href=\"https:\/\/cdn-6.motorsport.com\/static\/img\/mgl\/300000\/310000\/315000\/315400\/315487\/s8\/lemans-24-hours-of-le-mans-1985-5-martini-lancia-lc2-83-85-henri-pescarolo-mauro-baldi.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">#5<\/a>) places. However, Lancia realized that the LC2 was no match for the 962C, so for the following year they didn\u2019t even enroll a car at Le Mans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.w-143.com\/+upload\/i-o\/lancia_lc2_5_03.jpg\" alt=\"LC2 \"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Even Ixo (IXO!) provide missing decals. Do you hear that, HPI?!?<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Though very fast, the LC2 was never a reliable car. But in 1:43 it\u2019s a total stunner. VERY nicely made by Ixo, IMO it should be the <i>basic<\/i> Ixo model. If all other Ixo cars were like this, Spark would have some very serious competition. And this is a curious one. Below the plinth came a small plastic envelope with that note and a decal sheet for the missing logos. Very few 1:43 brands go that extra mile. However, I looked at dozens of photos of the LC2 online and can\u2019t find where they\u2019re supposed to go .&nbsp; I\u2019m really pleased that Ixo sends the decals with the car, but unfortunately on me it\u2019s a wasted effort.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>1984 Lancia LC2 83\/85 Pilots: H.
