That’s how I define the 250 SWB, though I do admit that black is not the best color for the car. The SWB was produced in two versions, the Lusso, with a steel frame and tamer V12, and the Competizione, with a aluminum body frame and more aggressive engine. This is a Competizione, the war version of the car, lighter than the road going Lusso – only 1026 kg. The engine was a 2953 cm³ V12 fed by six Weber carburetors. Straight from the Testarossa 250, it produced around 275 hp.

Not the best model in scale but in real life the Competizione #16 did pretty well.

Frenchman Fernand Tavano bought a 250 SWB Competizione directly from Maranello and took it to La Sarthe. In the 1960 24 Heures du Mans, of the 63 cars in the race 12 were from Maranello. Competition was stiff, but Tavano and Pierre Dumay took their Competizione #16 (chassis #2001GT) to fourth place overall. With that, they came in first place in the GT3000 class.

As always, the dead eyes are a huge detraction.

So, a (kind of) nice rendition of the Competizione #16 in 1:43. However, with all pw models of vintage cars, the wheels are really the bad thing here. Yeah, it also has pins behind the headlights and wipers a bit too thick, but I would be content if only the wheels were better. The 250 SWB is such a beautiful car that I’ll have to get a better version* of it in scale. Definitively.

*Not the best but Hot Wheels makes a very nice one.

1960 Ferrari 250 GT SWB Berlinetta Competizione Pilots: F.
