Unveiled at the 2006 Geneva Motor Show<\/a>, the CCX <\/b>was the third generation car from Koenigsegg. CCX means Competition Coup\u00e9 X.<\/i> The X refers to the 10th anniversary of the test drive of the first CC car in 1996. It was the first Koenigsegg totally designed in 3D-cad and cut by CNC machines instead of being hand modeled and built. Based on the previous CCR<\/a>, the aim of the project  was to make a global car. It was designed and engineered to comply with global safety and environmental regulations, particularly to enter the United States car market. One of the big differences to its predecessor is that an in-house developed Koenigsegg unit replaced the Ford Modular engine.  The \u201cdihedral synchro-helix actuation doors\u201d<\/a>, a feature that has become synonymous to Koenigsegg cars, was obviously carried over to the new car.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The all-new engine<\/a> was an aluminum V8 displacing 4700 cm\u00b3. With 4 valves per cylinder, DOHC and supercharged with twin Rotrex centrifugal superchargers, it generated 806 hp. All that power goes through a transversal 6-speed gearbox, modulated by a F1-style traction control system with 5 different handling modes for optimal performance. The body, made from pre-impregnated carbon fiber\/Kevlar with aluminum honeycomb sandwich reinforcements, came with a removable hardtop stowable under the front bonnet. It was also the first car to have, as an optional, carbon fiber wheels, that were 3 kg lighter than the standard forged alloy \u201ctelephone-dial\u201d stock wheels. From 2006 t0 2010, Koenigsegg\u2019s \u00c4ngelholm plant produced 29 units of the CCX. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 1:43 it\u2019s a delightful model, and even has a removable roof – AUTOart certainly did a fantastic job. But speaking in terms of Koenigsegg models, before this CCX I had the two extremes. At one side the expensive SophiArt<\/a> and on the other hand the cheap Ixo<\/a>. With this CCX I think that now I have the middle ground. However, it\u2019s the best one that I have. Why? Basically math. It is better than the CC8S but not as finely detailed as the Regera. But if you add price to the equation it delivers the best bang for the buck. The sad part is that AFAIK, the CCX is the only Koenigsegg available in 1:43 in this middle range.
