All Ruf vehicles are derived from unmarked Porsche chassis, called BIW (\u201cbody in white\u201d), that receive highly modified bodies and engines built in-house at Ruf\u2019s factory in Pfaffenhausen, Germany. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.w-143.com\/+upload\/street\/ruf_ctr3_2008_04.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>In my eyes the matt gray looks good on the car.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/pictures.topspeed.com\/IMG\/crop\/201107\/ruf-ctr-3_800x0w.jpg\" target=\"_blank\">CTR3<\/a> is the third model of the CTR series to come from Ruf (Group <strong>C<\/strong>, <strong>T<\/strong>urbo <strong>R<\/strong>uf, <strong>3<\/strong>rd generation). First displayed in 2007, the CTR3 was available from 2008 to 2012, and it undeniably looks like a vintage Porsche. That\u2019s because Alois &#8220;Louis&#8221; Ruf, the company\u2019s chairman, asked his design team to design a car that had similar lines to his all-time favorite car from Stuttgart: the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lemansdecals.com\/tienda\/435-thickbox_default\/porsche-550-coupe-le-mans-1953-n44.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"1953 Porsche 550 Le Mans Coupe. (opens in a new tab)\">1953 Porsche 550 Le Mans Coupe.<\/a> And it\u2019s the first Ruf based on a model that is <em>not <\/em>a 911.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.w-143.com\/+upload\/street\/ruf_ctr3_2008_03.jpg\" alt=\"CTR3\"\/><figcaption>All right, it&#8217;s ice cool, but it does look a Cayman.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Ruf produces the CTR3 using a BIW of a Porsche 987 Cay\u00adman. More precisely, Ruf uses the 987\u2019s front platform (basically from the A-pillars forward). But the the rear is completely original, a tube frame design (or &#8220;birdcage&#8221; as Ruf calls it). The engine then goes at midships and the wheelbase is 21 cm longer than what you see on the Cayman. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.w-143.com\/+upload\/street\/ruf_ctr3_2008_02.jpg\" alt=\"CTR3\"\/><figcaption>Not all cars can pull the stealth look efficiently, but the CTR3 can.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The engine is an in-house hand-built Porsche-derived 3800 cm\u00b3 <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/pictures.topspeed.com\/IMG\/jpg\/201311\/2009-ruf-ctr3-rolls-acros-23.jpg\" target=\"_blank\">boxer-6<\/a> boosted by twin KKK turbochargers that produces 691 hp. On a svelte 1375 kg car like the CTR3, that means going from a standstill to 100 km\/h in only 3.2 seconds, and it can reach 373 km\/h. Aside from the aluminum Porsche doors and hood the rest of the body is all done in carbon fiber and made totally by Ruf. So are the front and rear fenders, with a curvier profile, and the windshield is much shorter then what you see on the Cayman. Also, the CRT3 doesn\u2019t have a rear window, but a rearward mounted <a href=\"https:\/\/pictures.topspeed.com\/IMG\/crop\/201005\/ruf-ctr3-at-the-nurb-6_800x0w.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">camera<\/a> that displays its image on a screen on the dash.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.w-143.com\/+upload\/street\/ruf_ctr3_2008_05.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>I see more cars from Pfaffenhausen in my future.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>In general terms I\u2019m not very sympathetic towards \u201ctuned cars\u201d. Well, even though I do <a aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"http:\/\/www.w-143.com\/index.php\/porsche-911-gt2-997-ii-techart-gt-street-rs-2011-spark\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">have one<\/a> in the Garage. I, like many, thought that Ruf was only a company that developed aftermarket engine and body kits. Like Gemballa or Techart. But after some research I found out that Ruf is actually a <em>manufacturer<\/em> . They develop and build engines and structural parts, therefor, they\u2019re not just tuners, far from that. And once again my readings and research made me spend money&#8230;. So now I have a Ruf in the Garage. But come on, that\u2019s a cool car or what \ud83d\ude0e? And, with supercar performance.
