These new rules allowed extensive modifications to the car. Specifically, only the bonnet, roof, doors and rail panel were left unmodified. Porsche jumped on the opportunity and developed the famous <a href=\"https:\/\/www.w-143.com\/index.php\/porsche-935-40-ebbro\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">935<\/a>. Powering the big beast was a boxer-6 SOHC with 12 valves and 2857 cm\u00b3. With it\u2019s single <a href=\"https:\/\/www.flamingomag.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/RACING.V17.Porsche-935-engine.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">KKK turbo<\/a> it delivered a brutal 630 hp of power. The 935 only weighed 900 kg, and with that single big turbo it suffered from a LOT of turbo lag. That being so, Porsche\u2019s dedicated Group 5 weapon was not for the faint of heart. In spite of that, in 1977 Porsche offered the model for sale, and it was a hit amongst privateers<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.w-143.com\/+upload\/porsche\/race\/porsche_935_40xray_02.jpg\" alt=\"935 #40\"\/><figcaption>Despite a very unlucky race, 935 #40 managed a terrific result.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The French team JMS Racing was serious about the 1977 <em>24 Heures du Mans<\/em>. They bought chassis #930 770 0912 to race in Group 5 and #930 670 0177 (Porsche 934) for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.w-143.com\/index.php\/porsche-934-56-premiumx\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Group 4<\/a>. To prepare both cars they partnered with Henri Cachia from ASA Cachia, and painted them in the striking \u201cX-Ray\u201d livery. However, during the race things were not smooth for #40. The car had problems with the brakes and fuel injector pump, and even needed a turbocharger replacement. Nonetheless, 935 #40 had a better race than the superior factory <a href=\"https:\/\/www.w-143.com\/index.php\/porsche-935-77-41-spark\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">935\/77<\/a>. Despite all the mishaps, on Sunday afternoon car #40 finished in <a href=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/_oCnW51tP3M0\/TCzIbFLcbXI\/AAAAAAAALqk\/FUWdPM6uqoU\/s1600\/1977-40-10.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">third overall<\/a> and first in class. Concurrently, car #56 finished 12th overall and third in class. Not bad at all for the team\u2019s first attempt at La Sarthe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.w-143.com\/+upload\/porsche\/race\/porsche_935_40xray_03.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>My &#8220;X-Ray Team&#8221; is now complete.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"100\" height=\"100\" src=\"https:\/\/www.w-143.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/grail.gif\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2204\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <em>\u201cX-Ray 935\u201d<\/em>. 935 #40 here is a grail model for me. Not only does it have one of the coolest liveries <em>ever<\/em>, I had both the #40 and #56 in my 1:18 days. Ever since I got the X-Ray 934 I was looking forward to completing the duo. Nevertheless, Spark\u2019s model is nothing short of rare, and I hadn\u2019t found one until now. In the end, I got a GREAT 1:43, a class winner and an art car. In other words, a grail model.
